SFX Magazine features The Winter King production design

26 February 2024

British science fiction and fantasy periodical SFX Magazine has published a feature on the production design of The Winter King, filmed at Patchway Studios by Bad Wolf and now available to view on ITVx.

The Winter King is set in post-Roman Dark Age Britain and is based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Warlord Chronicles. Production designer James North led the fantastically talented art department to design and construct King Arthur’s seat of power Caer Cadarn at Patchway Studios – an external courtyard and internal cave system designed to merge seamlessly with a quarry location in Wales. The awe-inspiring set made full use of the space available at the studio, stretched from the extensive backlot through a roller door and filling half of the 37,000 sqf stage, enabling impressive continuous external-internal shots.
