ITV's epic Arthurian adaptation The Winter King lined up for festive release
15 November 2023
Christmas is coming and ITVX is first out of the blocks to release its line-up for 2023 with some big hitters sitting on its schedule. In amongst some old favourites including The Masked Singer, Tipping Point and Deal or No Deal, there is a brand new drama that was filmed right here at Patchway Studios.
The Winter King is an epic Arthurian adaptation set in the fifth century in a brutal land of warring factions and tribes where lives were often fleeting. We follow Arthur Pendragon, played by Iain De Caestecker (The Control Room and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), as he evolves from being an outcast and becomes a legendary warrior and leader.
The Winter King is based on Bernard Cornwell’s Warlord Chronicles which have been adapted by Kate Brooke and Ed Whitmore who also act as executive producers. The series also stars Eddie Marsan (The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe and Deceit) as High King Uther and Daniel Ings (The Crown and I Hate Suzie) as Merlin.
Taking a leaf out of the Netflix playbook, the 10-part series will land on streamer ITVX in two parts: episodes 1-5 appear on December 21st 2023, with episodes 6-10 released on December 27th.
